Cooking in The Sims 4 can be a relaxing slice-of-life moment. However, fans of the franchise know that at any moment a grilled cheese sandwich can burn down an entire lot. For fans of the game who enjoy playing with fire, the Unlucky Chef scenario in The Sims 4 provides plenty of chaos.
The Unlucky Chef scenario has two potential story endings. The first is that the sim becomes a celebrity chef despite the danger. The second is the safer option in which players choose to become mixologists to avoid the risk of fires. While the mixologist route is safer, players will still have to level up their cooking skills and survive constant danger to reach that point.
Using Aspirations and Traits to Help With the Scenario
There are several ways players can attempt to negate as much of the bad luck this scenario will give their sims as possible. The easiest method is by using aspirations and lot traits that can help quickly boost the cooking and mixology skills.
If players give their sim the Master Chef Aspiration, sims will automatically be given the Essence of Flavor trait. The Essence of Flavor trait will help them make higher-quality food items. This trait will help players complete the promotion requirements in the Unlucky Chef scenario. The Foodie trait will also give sims the ability to watch cooking shows on any television to increase their cooking skills.
There are several lot traits that can also help during this challenge. The Chef’s Kitchen trait will enhance sims’ culinary skills. The Homey trait also helps sims master cooking and mixology skills faster.
Joining and Advancing in the Culinary Career
Since this scenario relies on sims becoming celebrity chefs, the first thing players will want to do once they begin the scenario is to join a career. Players can use their phone or any computer, to join a career.
Players will want to select a culinary career for the Unlucky Chef scenario. To advance in this field players will need to spend most of their time cooking, researching cooking, or watching cooking shows.
While a sim is at work players can increase their work performance, by clicking on the icon that appears above the sims photo. This will reveal a hidden menu, that lets players have some level of control over their sim’s work life. Selecting “Work hard” will increase that sims work performance while lowering their fun need and giving them the “stressed from work” moodlet.
Another way players can boost their sim’s cooking skills is sitting in on skill classes. Using the phone players with the Discover University expansion pack can select the “sit in on skill classes” option. Selecting either the cooking, gourmet cooking, or mixology class will send sims down a rabbit hole for a few hours. Sims can also purchase books to help build their cooking and mixology skills.
How to Cook With a Sim Who’s an Unlucky Chef

Whenever players cook meals on the stove, there is a large chance that the oven will catch on fire. However, players can minimize the number of fires they have to deal with, by preparing meals that don’t require an oven. Some foods that do not require an oven include:
- Salads
- Onigiri
- Chips and Salsa
- Maki Rolls
- Various types of Nigiri
- Fruit & Yogurt Parfait
Players that want to keep fire hazards in the Unlucky Chef scenario can avoid those dishes and only use the oven. If players have a sprinkler system and fire alarm in the kitchen of their house, they can often avoid their sim catching on fire and dying. Having a smoke alarm and sprinkler system installed also means players will receive an insurance payment to replace damaged items.
Players opting for the safer route with the Celebrity Mixologist ending will want to purchase a bar. Players can boost their mixology skills by selecting the “practice making drinks” option. This option is also available in any bar in the world.
Completing the Unlucky Chef Scenario

The Unlucky Chef scenario in The Sims 4 is completed when the sim is finally promoted to the Celebrity Chef or Mixologist career level. A pop-up will appear with the recorded completion time for the scenario. Upon completing the Unlucky Chef scenario all sims in the household will receive 5,000 satisfaction points. In addition, the unlucky chef will have several kitchen appliances and decorations, that are only available upon reaching the final level of the career.
