Twitch is undoubtedly one of the biggest streaming sites on the planet, giving a platform for gamers to use, some of whom go on to lead successful careers. It eclipses the likes of YouTube and Facebook and in fact Twitch’s implementation of a new browser plugin seeks to ensure its dominance of the streaming market.

On top of that, the website has now launched gift cards in the UK, Canada and Australia, which went live as of yesterday. A blog post on the site says that digital and physical versions of the cards are currently available on Amazon, allowing people to purchase a range of cards that have pre-set values.

Looking at the blog post in more detail, it looks as though, for the UK at least, there are digital gift cards available in £15, £25, £50, and £100 denominations, with physical cards being able to have amounts between £15 and £150. Canada has a similar pay structure, though it seems as though Australian users can only get digital cards.

Just in case it wasn’t obvious, Twitch gift cards are essentially another way for people to reward streamers by allowing people to donate bits etc. Like regular gift cards often bought for birthdays and Christmas, they can be purchased for other people who can spend it on the site without having to use their own money. Obviously, users will need to have their own Twitch account in order to receive a gift card.

Currently, there are more than nine million active streamers on the site, with interest in the online platform no doubt skyrocketing in the wake of the 2020 pandemic. While the majority of content creators have much smaller communities and are perhaps more interested in it for fun, there are those lucky few who are able to turn Twitch streaming into a full time career, with even fewer able to make a lot of money through the platform.

Not to mention that some Twitch channels have dedicated time to raising money for charity. Last May, the likes of Ninja, ExoticChaotic and SpaceLyon were able to help raise tens of thousands of dollars for worthy causes, showing that playing games online can yield positive rewards.
