How To Leave Fireteam in Destiny 2 (Planet and Orbit)

Lots of endgame content requires a seld-made fireteam in Destiny 2. Activities like Grandmaster Nightfalls, Raids, and Dungeons will all have you bring your friends along. Once you are done and got your loot, you can safely leave the fireteam, and here’s how to do that in Destiny 2.

All methods to leave the fireteam below only work when you are not the leader of the fireteam in Destiny 2. You can freely leave the fireteam after delegating the leader role.

How to Leave Fireteam While on the Ground

If you are currently on the ground or in an activity like a Vanguard Op, Crucible, or Raid, you can leave the fireteam using your Ghost.

  1. Press “Tab” on PC (touchpad on PlayStation, menu button on Xbox)
  2. Hold “O” on PC (triangle on PlayStation, Y on Xbox) just like you would when departing to Orbit on your own

After that, you will successfully have left a fireteam in Destiny 2.

How to Leave Fireteam While in the Orbit

If you are in the Orbit and are not traveling anywhere, things are a bit more confusing. You will not find any options in the menus. Instead, you just press “Esc” on PC (Circle on PlayStation, B on Xbox), and the prompt will pop up warning that you are about to leave the fireteam. This works during matchmaking for any activity.

If the fireteam is currently traveling somewhere, just wait until you reach your destination and use the method that we mentioned.

How to Make Someone a Fireteam Leader

If you are a fireteam leader, you will need to put this role on someone else within the fireteam to leave it yourself.

To make someone a fireteam leader:

  • Hold “Tab” on PC (touchpad on PlayStation, menu button on Xbox
  • Navigate to the roster menu on the right, select a fireteam member
  • Press the “Promote to Fireteam Leader” button.

Now you are just a fireteam member and can leave the fireteam and play by yourself.

Destiny 2 is a social game, but if you prefer to run solo, you will need to bring along lots of guns. And there are quite a few to choose from:
