If you’re curious to know how to unlock locked items in The Sims 4 then you’re in the right place. There are a ton of items in the game that aren’t available from the start or aren’t available at all without a few tricks.
As you play through the game and get better at a certain skill or perform certain actions, you will naturally unlock some items, but there are other ways to go about getting them.
When one of your Sims advances to a certain level in any career they are engaged in, they unlock an item known as a Career Item. While some of these are merely ways to improve the aesthetics of your home, others can be used to help Sims develop a skill they might need for their specific Career more quickly.
To accomplish this, click on the item and choose “Emotional Aura.” And your Sim will advance in that particular skill more quickly. There are currently two ways that you can go about collecting career items in The Sims 4. And we will be breaking down the specifics of each method below.
Unlock Hidden Items and Live Edit Items
The first way to unlock items in The Sims 4 is by using a debug cheat. This cheat will allow you to get items that are not available to buy in the game.
There are two cheats that will allow you to do that, each unlocks a different set of items:
- bb.showhiddenobjects
- bb.showliveeditobjects

Unlock Career Items
Other items are locked behind the career progression. Also known as career items. Career Items can be unlocked by having a Sim reach a certain level within that career.
Almost every career has a variety of abilities and items that become available at each Career Level from 2 to 6.
However, in The Sims 4, you can use a cheat to unlock all Career Items. To do so, follow the steps we’ve laid out below:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + C. (Command on Mac). Enter testingcheats true into the text box that appears.
- Return to the text box and type bb.ignoregameplayunlocksentitlement.
- You should now notice that every single Career Reward from every Career available to your Sims in the game is now available for purchase.
Use Mods to Unlock Locked Items
Alternatively, if you don’t want to use cheats for any reason, you can also use a mod to gain the same effect. You can find and download the mod here. This mod allows you to unlock locked content without advancing your Sim’s career or using cheats.
Despite the fact that it only unlocks objects, the game contains over 100 locked objects.
To use this mod, you must first ensure that your game supports custom mods. To do so, follow the steps below:
- Go to Game Options, select Other, and check the boxes next to Enable Custom Content Mods and Script Mods.
- Without unzipping the tmex-unlock.zip file, install the Unlock all mod.
- Restart the game and enter tm.unlockall into the console to unlock all of the items.
