Adopting children is easier than ever in The Sims 4. Having children is a major milestone in many Sims’ lives, and adoption offers a quick alternative to the drawn-out process of having biological children.
We’ll cover exactly how to go about adopting children down below.
Requirements for Adopting Children

Any Sim that tries to adopt a child will have to meet a few requirements first. The requirements are as follows:
- The adopting Sim must be a Young Adult, an Adult, or an Elder
- The adopting family must have no more than 7 members, including cats and dogs
- The adopting Sim must be able to afford an adoption fee of §1000
As long as your Sim and their family can meet these requirements, there is no limit on the number of children that you can adopt.
Adopting a Child

Once you’ve made sure that your Sim and their family fit the adoption requirements, have your Sim interact with their cell phone. Under the house tab, choose ‘Hire a Service’, then ‘Adopt a Child’.
The next menu will show you a list of every child that is currently available for adoption. Note that teenagers are not adoptable, so you won’t find any in this menu. You also won’t be able to see the children’s skills, so you’ll have to choose them for their physical characteristics and their age.
Once you’ve chosen, select them and pay the fee to start the adoption process. As soon as you do, your Sim will leave the world momentarily, and return with your new family member.

You’ll now get the chance to rename them, finishing the adoption process, and finally bringing them into your family. However, you do need to make sure that your house is ready to welcome your new family member. You might need some remodeling and we have some guides ready to help you:
