In The Sims 4, basements are a great way to add additional space to any sim’s home. Players can make any type of basement in The Sims 4, from simple storage spaces to dungeons full of secrets.
Make a Basement Entrance in The Sims 4
An important part of making a basement in The Sims 4 players will want to consider is where the entrance to the basement will be located. Basements can be accessed by both stairs and ladders, however, these items can not interset walls or other objects.
This means players will need to plan ahead when adding basements to their houses. Players can use stairs to create exterior entrances and use fences to highlight or hide the space. While ladders are a great way to access basements indoors when there is a limited amount of space available.
Where to Find the Basement Tools
Unlike the surface levels of a lot, when players make a basement in The Sims 4 the space will float in a void beneath the ground. Players are still unable to build outside of the lot’s designated space, however, they can build up to four levels down.
Players can use the basement tool, on the build UI bar, to create a square room under an existing room. Using the page down key on a keyboard or selecting the bottom arrow on the levels at the top of their screen, will take players to the basement levels.
The custom basement tool also allows players to draw out a larger variety of basement shapes. Players looking to create more advanced basement layouts can combine both of these tools.
Decorate Basements with Flooring, Furniture, and Wall Patterns
Once players have made a basement in The Sims 4 they can decorate them to fit any style. To create a simple basement hangout players can use base game sofas, coffee tables, televisions, and some wall art.
For more detailed basement spaces, players can purchase kits and expansion packs. With the Laundry Day expansion pack, players can convert their basements into fully stocked laundry rooms. The Discover University expansion pack can turn any space into the go-to basement hangout space.
